Learning Centers

Learning Centers are held each Sunday morning in conjunction with our main 10:00 AM worship service. Age specific classes meet for children from age 2 through High School. Our youngest classes, Chickabird and PreK begin at 10:00 so children do not have to transition as much. Students Kindergarten and up begin worship with their parents and dismissed to classrooms about 10:25 after the Chancel Steps Talk. All classes end at 11:15 AM. Childcare is also available.

Classroom locations

Chickabird (ages 2-3) meets in the Marble Room on the main level of the Vincent Building. Students hear a Bible story, sing in the chapel, play outside or in the playroom, create artwork to reinforce the story, and say a prayer at snack time.

PreK (ages 3 ½ to 5) meets in the Salzberger Room on the main level of the Vincent Building. Students are encouraged to respond to the Bible story both verbally and through art. They also sing in the chapel, have play time, and say prayers before snack.

We have intentionally allowed an overlap in age listings as children develop at their own pace and parents can decide which class fits best for their student.

Kindergarten meet in the DeForest Room on the main level of the Vincent building. Students are fully engaged with the Bible stories and begin reciting the Lord’s Prayer.

1st Grade meets in Room 1 on the second floor of the vincent Building. Students are fully engaged with the Bible stories and begin reciting the Lord's prayer.

2nd Grade meets in Room 2 on the second floor of the Vincent Building. Students now begin memorizing the 23rd Psalm.

3rd Grade meets in Room 3 of the Vincent Building. Along with the curriculum focused on Bible stories, students learn about the church year.

4th Grade meets in the Cole room . Students are actively engaged in bible stories as well as learning about general church structure and personnel.

5th Grade meets in the Chapel on the main level of the Vincent Building. Students are actively engage in Bible stories as well as learning about general church structure and personnel.

6th & 7th Grade meets in the East Wing on the second floor of the main Church Building. This class follows the Bible story curriculum, connecting it with social justice and service opportunities.

Curriculum & Calendar

We follow the public school calendar beginning our program year the first Sunday after Labor Day and concluding on the 3rd Sunday in June. From June to Labor Day we have combined Learning Center classes, in two age groups, for children through 3rd grade.

We use "Gather Round," a Bible story based curriculum that begins with Genesis and ends with Revelations each year with a different theme each quarter. Stories correspond to the celebration of Christmas and Easter.

Bibles

Each year, our third graders are presented with their own copy of the New Revised standard Version of the Bible after completing the Faith Stepping Stones class, The Bible. Teachers in the younger grades use the English Contemporary Version.
