LOOKING BACK AT LAST SUMMER:
It was a busy June for Pride Choir. We were invited to the Hughes Justice Center in Trenton to sing at a Diveristy, Equity, And Inclusion/Pride Flag Raising Event hosted by the Attorney General. We also sang at the Montclair Flag Raising, AAPI's Lantern Festival, East Orange Pride, Out Montclair's Pride Sponsor Party, and on the Montclair Pride mainstage! A special gratitude goes out to the nearly 300 people who came out to our June 2024 concert "The Rainbow Screen: Queer Music Of The Cinema.
About the June 2024 concert: On Thursday, June 6th at 7pm, the 40+ member Out Montclair / Union Congregational Church LGBTQ+ Pride Choir performed their free concert “The Rainbow Screen: Queer Music Of The Cinema.” The audience was captivated by soaring vocals and heart-pumping melodies that weave a tapestry of love, acceptance, and individuality, written exclusively by queer composers, or lyricists, and performed by LGBTQ+ characters or actors. This fully-inclusive choral concert celebrated the talent, strength, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.

ABOUT PRIDE CHOIR:
The purpose of Pride Choir is to provide a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community to gather, be celebrated, and make music together. Instilled with a culture of diversity and inclusion, the Pride Choir fosters acceptance across the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and non-binary spectrum and entertains audiences with inspiring musical performances. Co-Founders Kim Crabtree and John David Whitener, in partnership with Out Montclair and Union Congregational Church, launched the New Jersey-based LGBTQ+ community Pride Choir in August 2023. This project, in its’ inaugural year, is 100% volunteer-driven with support from Union Congregational Church and Out Montclair. You can follow them at www.pridechoir.com or on Instagram: @pridechoir

About Union Congregational Church: Seeing an opportunity to invite and lift up our neighbors in the LGBTQ+ community, and live into the church’s 2001 Open and Affirming Covenant welcoming all LGBTQ+ people in to the full life and ministry of our church, Union Congregational Church is overjoyed to partner with Out Montclair and launch Pride Choir in August. By hosting a LGBTQ+ non-religious community chorus, the church strives to celebrate and affirm the lives of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender individuals and foster greater celebration of and support for LGBTQ+ people in the wider community.
