Let's Watch: “Selma!”

The inaugural film in the Let's Watch series sponsored by the Racial Justice Ministry Team will be “Selma,” a historical drama directed by Ava Duvernay that depicts the three-month period culminating in the three 1965 Selma to Montgomery Marches for voting rights. The movie will be screened in the Guild Room or the Assembly Room (based on attendance) on Friday, January 26 -- bring your own brown bag or takeout supper, doors open at 6pm, movie starts at 6:30pm. There will follow two opportunities for group discussion: immediately after the screening for night owls and during Second Hour on Sunday, January 28. Selma runs 2 hours, 8 minutes and is rated PG-13 for language, smoking, and violence; it is suitable for confirmands and older.

To prepare for the movie, please read, "Ten Things You Should Know About Selma Before You See the Film" (www.zinnedproject.org/if-we-knew-our-history/selma-ten-things/). If you can't attend the Friday screening, watch the movie on your own and come to the Sunday discussion -- the movie is available on streaming platforms and public libraries.
